Kumarakom Tourist Village Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary
Located on the banks of the Vembanad Lake, the Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary, an ornithologist's paradise, is a favorite haunt of migratory birds like the Siberian stork, egret, darter, heron and teal. A cruise along the Vembanad Lake is the best way to experience the sanctuary.

The popular Nehru Trophy boat race is also held in Alleppey in the months of August-September. Boat house cruises on the backwaters also attract a lot of tourists to Alleppey.

Periyar Wildlife
Sanctuary The Periyar wildlife sanctuary is another great excursion option from Kumarakom. Spread in an area of 777 Sq Kms, the wildlife sanctuary is known for its diverse flora and fauna. Though a tiger reserve, the sanctuary is more popular for elephants. Elephant rides inside the sanctuary add a lot of thrill to the visit.

Kumily
Kumily would be the best choice for shopping. A small town near to Kumarakom, Kumily has emerged as a major shopping destination and spice trade centre in recent times. The coffee plantations of Kumily add to the beauty of its landscape.
