Nestled in the Baba Budan hills, Chikmagalur is a calm, serene town full of scenic surprises ….hill valley streams and snow white coffee blossoms. Situated 251 kms from Bangalore, Chikmagalur is a trekker’s delight with its rugged mountain trails. This town rose to prominence as an outpost of the Vijayanagar Empire. Later, in the 17th-18th centuries, it became the headquarters of a line of local chiefs known as Bedas, until it was occupied by Haider Ali in 1799 and then by the British. The Fort defines by Walls of huge granite blocks, rises above the town. A series of three gates leads into the irregular inner zone, strewn with striking granite boulders. There are several small temples here, as well as a number of ceremonial gateways erected by the Bedas.

Chikmagalur is connected to Bangalore, Hassan and Mangalore by train.

The place is well connected by good motorable roads to the neighboring. Situated in the southwestern part of Karnataka, Chikmagalur is 240 km from Bangalore, 170 km from Mangalore, 60 km from Hassan, and 40 km from Kadur.


Baba Budan Range

Situated north of Chikmagalur, this range, named after the Muslim saint Baba Budan, has one of the highest mountain peaks between the Himalayas and the Nilgiris.

Kondadarama Temple
This temple is a gorgeous mix of Hoysala and Dravidian architectural styles.

St. Joseph's Cathedral
The prime attraction of this church is its eye-catching shell-shaped portico.

Sringeri
This pilgrim center is known for the Vidyashankara Temple, which has 12 zodiac pillars. Sun’s rays fall on each pillar according to the time of the year.


Bhadra wild life Sanctuary (Muthodi)
It is 38 kms north-west, this sanctuary is a must for wildlife enthusiast’s .Gaur, chital, sambar, elephants and tiger are some of the wildlife found here.

Kemmanagundi
It is 55 kms north of Chikmagalur, This is a scenic hill Station, and situated on the Baba Budhan range at a height of 1,434 m .8 kms from Kemmanagundi are the Hebbe Falls where the water guesses down from the height of 168 meter in two stages. The Kalhatti Falls 10 kms from Kemmanagundi.The water here cascade down a height of 122 m.There is also a local temple here constructed in the gap between rocks.

Kudremukh
It is 95 kms south west of Chikmagalur is the secluded hill station of Kudremukh.situated 1894 m above sea level the Kudremukh hill overlooks the Arabian Sea and are chained to one an other with deep valleys and steep precipices. There is rich flora and fauna here. Waiting to be discovered.vaves asking to be explored Ruins and traces of an old civilization inviting study Lovely unspoilt places to camp…can any trekker resists Kudremukh? This place is also rich in iron-ore deposits.

Amruthapura
It is about 10 kms from Tarikere this little Town has a 800 year old temple dedicated to Amrutheswara.

Vidyashankara Temple
It has 12 zodiac pillars on each of which the sun’s rays fall according to the time of the Year.


The city is famous for its rich, fragrant sandalwood. You can also buy sandalwood idols and perfume in charming little wooden boxes.
