Day by Day Itinerary

Day 01 Arrive at Dibrugarh

Received and transferred to a Heritage Chang Bungalow (14kms/30 mints) in the midst of a rolling tea garden. After lunch go for a tea tour around a tea estate to know about tea – its origin, how it is grown, tea tasting and its quality. Overnight at the Chang Bungalow.

Dibrugarh (103 mtr) - the Tea Hub of upper Assam and gateway to Eastern Arunachal Pradesh is located on the Southern bank of the mighty Brahmaputra River. Dibrugarh is the original home of the beverage.

Day 02 Dibrugarh – Namsai – Wakro 120 kms/3 hrs

Drive to Namsai (300 mtr) - the land of the Khampti tribe who are believed to be the descendants of the Tai Ahom and migrated from Thailand during the early part of 13th century to the Lohit district .At Namsai, we facilitate a full day visit to Empong village, to learn about their culture and also visit the Buddhist gompa which is considered to be the largest of its kind in the North-east. Traditional lunch at a local house. Drive on to Wakro (66 kms/2hrs). Stay overnight at the Government Circuit House or with a Mishmi family (Basic)

Khampti is one of the major tribe inhabitant of Lohit District is deeply influenced by Buddhist ethics and morality. The Khampti are Buddhists of the Theravada School. They are the only tribe in Arunachal Pradesh who have their own script for the language. Traditionally they live on cultivation of paddy and other crops. The social structure of the Khampti is well organized on the basis of clan or village determined by kinship or locality.

Day 03 Wakro - Parsuram Kund – Wakro 12 km/30 min

At Wakro visit Mishmi Tribal villages to know about their rich culture and traditions. After the tribal village tours visit Parsuram Kund– a pilgrimage site where thousands of pilgrims come every year during the Makar Sankranti to take a holy dip in the Lohit River. Go for a light trek along the Lohit River. Enjoy your packed lunch on the banks of the River. Evening at leisure. Overnight at the Circuit House / Village guest house (Basic).

Wakro (maximum valley altitude at 2000m) is the homeland of the “Mishmis” one of the Mongoloid tribes of Tibeto-Burman origin. They speak their own dialect which varies from different groups. The three major Mishmi groups are “Idus” “Tarons” and the ‘Kamans’. Mishmis are very rich in culture and may be termed as a festival loving people. They be live any day of the year is auspicious for a ceremony if provisions exist, on these days animals are sacrificed. Mishmis are nature worshipers.

Day 04 Wakro - Namdapha National Park - Tezu

After early breakfast we drive to Namdapha National Park (40km/2h) .Take a nature walk along the Noa Dihing River. After lunch (packed) drive to Tezu (100 kms/3hrs). Overnight at Government Circuit House (Basic).

Namdapha National Park - It is a tiger reserve, and also one of the last remaining of the few evergreen forests in the world. Situated in the Changlang district of Arunachal Pradesh, it is flanked by Myanmar on its eastern boundary and by the Patkai mountain range on its southern boundary. The park is on the eastern end of the Himalayan foothills, spread over 1850sq. kms of rugged terrain, between an altitude bracket of 200 to 4500 metres. The vegetation spans from tropical to alpine. Namdapha is the only National Park, in the world which is famous for the four big cats-tiger, leopard, snow leopard and clouded leopard. Since the forest cover is very thick, sighting is not very easy, so one has to camp and trek through the reserve to sight any wildlife. This in it self is a challenge and provides excitement to the visitor.

Tezu – the headquarter of the Lohit district is home to the Digaru and Miju Mishmis. Interact with them and enjoy the drive with the natural view of the foothills of the Himalayan range.

Day 05 Tezu – Roing 110 kms/2 hrs

After breakfast we proceed to Roing in the Debang valley of Arunachal Pradesh crossing the Lohit River at Digaru. After lunch we interface with the Mishmi tribes and visit the ruins of the Bishmaknagar (29kms from Roing) - one of the oldest archaeological site which can be called a "Hill Fort" made of burnt bricks and dating back to the 12th Century. Overnight we stay at the Tourist lodge or camping (Basic) at Sally Lake.

Day 06 At Roing

Early morning we drive to Mayodia Pass (55kms/1h30mins) situated at an altitude of 7000 ft amidst lofty hills, lush green forest and breathtaking landscapes. Visit the Debang Valley National Park and return late afternoon to Sally Lake for overnight stay.

Day 07 Roing – Dibrugarh 245 kms /6 hrs

After breakfast drive back to Dibrugarh Enroute visit Tai Phakial village- an ethnic village whose kith and kin date back to the Ahom period. The villagers still maintain their age-old culture - a village worth exploring. It is situated near the River Buri-Dihing. A Buddhist Monastery dots the village which belongs to the Hinayana sects. Tai translation of the Ramayana written on handmade paper has been newly discovered in this village. The structures of the houses are unique as the walls are made of bamboo and the roof is of palm leaves (Toko), mounted over a Chang or stilt. Overnight at the Chang Bungalow at Dibrugarh.

Day 08 Dibrugarh – Jorhat 160 kms /4 hrs

After leisurely breakfast, drives to Jorhat (100 mtr approx) Enroute visit the monuments and temple of medieval period at Sivasagar .Overnight at Thengal Manor /Guests House.

Sivasagar was once the capital of the Ahom Kings. The Shans who came from Thailand through Northern Myanmar to this area in early 13th century, ruled for 600 years. The Siva Temple, built by the Ahoms, situated here is believed to be the tallest of all existing Hindu temples. The ruins of the Ahom palaces and monuments dot the landscape around this historical town. Centuries, before the arrival of the British, this part of the world was controlled by a number of tribal chieftains.

In the town of Sivasagar, one can still see the remaining well preserved relics. Palaces, tanks, forts, places of worship and burial sites (vaults) at Charaideo present the richness of this highly evolved and advanced civilization. The largest and the oldest amphi-theatre of Asia (Rang Ghar) is also another remarkable landmark in the history of Sivasagar. The Tai- Ahom Museum of Sivasagar contains the some of the relics of the Ahom period, like – swords, clothes, manuscripts and sundry artefacts.

Day 09 Jorhat – Kohima 220 kms /6 hrs

After breakfast drive to Kohima. Evening at leisure. Overnight at Hotel Japhu or similar.

Kohima, now the state capital of Nagaland, is situated at an altitude of 1495 mts. above sea level. This hill station, with a panoramic view of the rugged Naga Hills was witness to a fifty day and night non-stop fighting during the 2nd World War. A garrison of 3500 made a stand against a besieging army of 15,000! Visit and discover this “Battle of Tennis Court!” Have a close experience of Angami tribal village

Day 10 Kohima – Thetsumi 90 km /3 hrs

At Kohima – forenoon take a walk or a car tour around the Garrison Hill area to revisit the Battle of Kohima – hear about the stories of the war as it happened then. The tour culminates at the 2nd World War Cemetery where the famous battle of tennis court took place.

Visit the State Museum, the handloom and handicraft emporium is a treasure house of traditional weaves along with the souvenir shops. The State Museum showcases some of the most fascinating aspects of Naga tribal life in all its variety and wealth of tradition. It also houses some of the ancestral weaponry, carved gateposts, status pillars that record Feasts of Merit and traditional Naga costumes and jewellery. In short it gives an overview of tribal lifestyles and the history of the Nagas.

After lunch, drive to Thetsumi village -a tourist village at an altitude of 4200mtrs. Overnight at village guest house / camping for two nights.

Day 11 At Thetsumi

Whole day excursion at Thetsumi village experience the heritage and charm of the Chakhesang Naga tribe. Afternoon enjoy a local cultural programme.

Day 12 Thetsumi - Kaziranga National Park 234 kms /7 hrs

After breakfast drive to Kaziranga National Park Overnight at Bonhabi Lodge.

Day 13 At Kaziranga National Park

Early morning, go for an elephant safari to the central range of the park. After breakfast go for a jeep safari to another range of the park. Post lunch; take another jeep safari to the park. Evening at leisure. Overnight at the lodge.

KAZIRANGA NATIONAL PARK - is a World Heritage Site, where more than 75% of the world’s total population of the great Indian One horned Rhinoceros can be found. It lies on the southern bank of the Brahmaputra River and is one of the oldest parks of Assam. Besides rhinos, the Asiatic Water Buffalo numbering over 1200, elephants over 1000, tigers more than 81, Swamp deer, Barking deer and Hog deer can be seen. About 400 species of birds are found in Kaziranga National Park. Swamp Francolin, Kalij Pheasant, Greylag Goose, Gadwall, Eurasian Wigeon, Mallard, Northern Shoveller, Northern Pintail, Streak Throated Woodpecker, Bay Woodpecker, Oriental Pied Hornbill, Great Hornbill, Osprey, Palas’s Fish Eagle, Changeable Hawk Eagle, Pied Falconets, Lesser Adjutant Stork, Greater Adjutant Stork, Black necked Stork, Grey-headed Lapwing, Indian White Backed Vulture, Long Billed Vulture, along with a large number of Spotted Billed Pelican. Sighting is excellent and is always a great experience.

Day 14 Kaziranga National Park – Guwahati Airport 250 kms /5hrs

After breakfast Say good buy to this fascinating land and new friends and drive to Guwahati airport and fly out to onward destination.
