& 17th centuries, Agra was the capital of the grand Mughal Empire.
During this period the city became a leading centre of art, science,
commerce and culture. Akbar the Great made Agra great. The city's
origins are dim but Akbar's grandfather Babur is credited with Agra's
founding. The short golden age of Agra came to an end with the
seventeenth century reign of Shah Jehan, mastermind of the unforgettable
Taj Mahal. 09:00 hrs.: Breakfast at Country Inn Kosi. After breakfast continue drive to Agra. 11:00 hrs.: Enroute visit to Sikndra - site of the tomb of the greatest Mughal Emperor Akbar. Here we will stop for (Photo Stop). |

hrs. : Visit the Taj Mahal - Monument to Love which was built in
1630 by Mghal Emperor Shah Jahan as a tomb for his beloved wife Mumtaz
Mahal. Construction of the Taj Mahal began in 1631, and is believed to
have taken 18 years to complete, with over 20,000 craftsmen working
around the clock. The design and construction is said to be that of the
legendary architect, Ustad Ahamad Lahori. Legend has it that once
construction was completed, Shah Jehan had Lahori's hands cut off, and
blinded, so he would never be able to duplicate the structure. What
makes the Taj Mahal unique is its perfect proportions, distinct
femininity, medium of construction and ornamentation. Its marble
exterior reflects rose and golden tints at sunrise and sunset, while it
is dazzling white during the day. It is impossible to visualize the Taj
Mahal in any surrounding others than its paradoxical garden. Paradise,
in Islam, is visualized as a lush garden where running streams flow.
When the Mughals brought this concept to India they elevated it to
heights of Incomparable artistry. |

hrs. : The Agra Fort - built by the great Emperor Akbar in 1565
A.D., the fort is a masterpiece of design and construction. Within the
fort are a number of exquisite buildings, including the Moti Masjid,
Diwane-I-Am, Diwane-I-Khas and Musamman Burj, where the Emperor Shah
Jahan died in imprisonment, besides Jahangir's Palace, Khaas Mahal and
the Sheesh Mahal.

Agra - Delhi (200 kms)
An early morning witness to Taj Mahal at Sunrise. Our Mughal city tour continue to visit the tomb of Itmad-ud-Daulah built by Empress Noor Jehan in the memory of Her Father. Later drive drive to Delhi via visit the ghost city of Fatehpur Sikri, built in 1569 by the Great Emperor Akbar. Today, it is deserted and left in solitude to reminisce over its past glory. Evening Snacks at Country Inn - Kosi. Continue drive to Delhi. Arrive Delhi 20:00 hrs. |
